Post-production techniques and processes (U3:P5)

Learning Outcome 4 (U3) : Be able to carry out post-production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief.

Front cover :












strengths :

- The colour pallet relates to the romance genre as stereotypically when one thinks of romance they imagine pinks and reds. Throughout my magazine the colour scheme has stayed the same in order to keep the genre of the magazine at a main focus for the readers. 

- Using stars, ornaments and glitter immediately links to the whole notation of Christmas. The magazine is supposed to be a Christmas edition, thus including these small additions definitely outlines the holiday feel. 

- The front cover includes typical conventions of a magazine - through puffs, a barcode, a masthead and cover lines. These conventions have been used in order to initiate a professional look to the magazine, as well as grabbing the readers attention by the details within the product. 

weaknesses :

- As much as romance resembles pinks and reds, perhaps the front cover has too much of this colour pallet. It may be seen as over the top or hard to read as the background could be seen as mixing with the rest of the text.  

- The cover lines could have included more details surrounding the new movie. This might have been beneficial as it would have promoted the movie a bit more, then it is currently doing. 

- 'New interviews with the stars of the romcom under the mistletoe,' could have been placed closer to the main image as it would have directed the readers attention from the picture to the brand new movie promotion. It also would mean that the magazine could have had another cover line to attract readers.

Double page spread :









strengths :

- The interviews are about the actors themselves and their experiences whilst shooting the new movie. This provides information for the readers, as well as could be helping future generations if their dream is to be an actor; learning previous experiences of actors and how they got to their position. 

- The advent calendar is neatly placed and includes Christmas movies that can be watched during the holidays. This immediately illustrates the whole idea of a Christmas edition magazine as an advent calendar is specially for Christmas. Also by including romance movies within the calendar it resembles the genre of the magazine. 

- The double page spread includes two streaming platforms, one being Netflix and one being Attraction Films (my magazines streaming platform). In the brief it states to have made a streaming platform, therefore my magazine includes it in order to promote it.

weaknesses : 

- The colour scheme could have added another colour that links to the genre of the recent issue, for example a green or a blue in order to mark the notation of the Christmas edition. 

- The text could have been smaller and then it would have been easy to add more interview questions. 

- Perhaps the double page spread could be seen as overcrowded with all the images that is included within it. For example the lips might be seen as unnecessary for the magazine; meaning that space could have been used for more text instead of an image.

JPEGs allow for high quality digital photos, quick transfers and fast access for those who want to view your product.  Client brief requirements : The client brief made it explicit that my magazine promotes a new independent film from North London. I have met this requirement through the inclusion of 'Under the mistletoe.' Plan and develop pre-production materials (U3 : P3, M2)

Learning Outcome 2 (U3) : Be able to plan and develop pre-production materials for an original media product to a client brief.  Model release form : A model release form grants the magazine company the right to use photographs taken of the models within the magazine without any legal issues that could come up.  Location release form : Location release form allows the production team to access a location site that the photoshoot is at and be able to release the pictures taken at that scene. Risk assessment : A risk assessment form outlines possible health and safety risks that could occur on set and are noted down so the team can avoid these issues. Recce of location : Recce of location checks the appropriateness of the grounds that the photoshoot is taken at; it is also beneficial that I check in advance so the team is aware of the site.
